Tom Solomon

Senior, Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Computer Engineering

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona

Tom is a senior at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, majoring in Electrical & Computer Engineering (B.S.). Driven by the values of hard work and sacrifice inherited from his Filipino immigrant parents, Tom maintains a fierce commitment to academic excellence. This dedication is reflected not only in his high GPA and successful balance of extracurriculars, but also in his prestigious recognition, having been awarded the Christopher Wilborn Electrical & Computer Engineering Scholarship in 2024 and the Cal Poly President’s Award in the 2024-2025 academic year.

His strong technical foundation has been built through his studies and projects. He possesses practical expertise in electrical systems design and control, evidenced by hands-on work where he has created custom circuit boards to deliver power to drones, developed motor control systems for smooth machine operation, and programmed small computers to collect and process real-time data.

Beyond his foundational technical expertise, Tom actively applies his drive in leadership roles and practical employment. He significantly impacted his peers as a Bronco Navigator, mentoring struggling first-year engineering students. Later, as President of the Southern California Engineering Technology Association (SCETA), he amplified student exposure to the industry by hosting over twelve talks from industry leaders and even representing his university at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, showcasing cutting-edge innovations. Complementing his leadership responsibilities, Tom also gains consistent practical experience through his on-campus jobs as both a Teacher’s Assistant and an IT help desk technician.

As the first member of his family to attend college in the United States, Tom is charting a path directly into the future of energy infrastructure. He is determined to earn his Professional Engineer license and dedicate his career to the power industry, where he intends to serve the public by supporting grid resilience, renewable energy integration, and reliable infrastructure with both integrity and technical expertise. Tom's ambition stems from his core belief: “If you can see it, you can be it,” a philosophy he now embodies for future generations of Filipinos.
